Participation Requirements
AFCB™ is an interactive, hands-on bodywork course. Students are expected to actively participate as both practitioner and client during demonstrations, practice sessions, assessments, positioning, and client-led movement.
Because hands-on participation is an essential component of the course, students must be physically able to participate in the majority of required course activities. Pregnancy, injury, medical conditions, disability, or other physical considerations may make receiving certain techniques inappropriate or require modification. When appropriate, an instructor may substitute observation, modified participation, or another educational activity for an individual technique or portion of the course.
Not every AFCB™ technique can be safely or appropriately modified for every circumstance. Students are responsible for communicating known physical limitations or considerations to the instructor before participating in hands-on activities. Students should contact the instructor before registration when they are unsure whether their circumstances will allow meaningful participation in the course.
If a student's limitations prevent participation in a substantial portion of the required hands-on instruction, AFCB™ may determine that the course cannot be completed at that time.
Pregnancy: AFCB™ is not taught as a prenatal bodywork modality. Pregnant students are welcome to attend; however, certain techniques may not be appropriate to receive during pregnancy and may instead be observed or otherwise modified at the instructor's discretion.
Cancellations must be received at least 10 calendar days before the first day of the course to be eligible for a refund.
Cancellations received fewer than 10 days before the course, failure to attend, or failure to complete the course are non-refundable.
Registration may be transferred to another available AFCB course date at the discretion of AFCB and subject to availability.
Documented emergencies or extraordinary circumstances may be reviewed individually at AFCB's discretion. An exception is not guaranteed.
A minimum of four (4) registered students is required for each AFCB™ course module. This minimum helps ensure that the course can be conducted as designed, including hands-on practice, partner rotation, instructor observation and feedback, demonstrations, and other scheduled learning activities.
Minimum enrollment requirements apply to each module individually. Enrollment in Module One does not guarantee that a subsequent module will be held if that module does not meet the minimum enrollment requirement.
Unless otherwise stated for a specific course, minimum enrollment must be met no later than twenty-one (21) days before the scheduled start date of each module. Any course-specific minimum enrollment deadline will be clearly identified in the course registration information.
Students are encouraged to wait until minimum enrollment has been confirmed before making nonrefundable travel or lodging arrangements.
If a module has not met the minimum enrollment requirement by the applicable deadline, AFCB™ reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the affected module. Registered students will be notified promptly and may choose to transfer the applicable tuition to a future available course date or receive a full refund of tuition paid for the canceled module.
For students who purchased multiple modules or a full-course package, any refund will apply to the canceled portion of the course that has not been provided.
AFCB™ is not responsible for travel, lodging, transportation, lost wages, or other expenses incurred as a result of course cancellation or rescheduling.
AFCB™ courses are professional, hands-on educational environments. All participants are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries, communicate respectfully, follow instructor safety directions, and respect the comfort, consent, privacy, and physical boundaries of fellow participants.
AFCB reserves the right to immediately remove a participant from the course for unsafe, disruptive, inappropriate, discriminatory, sexually inappropriate, threatening, or boundary-violating behavior, or for conduct that compromises the safety or learning environment of the class.
Participants dismissed for violations of professional conduct or safety policies will not be eligible for a refund and may be prohibited from attending future AFCB courses.
Nebraska licensed massage therapists are currently required to complete 16 hours of continuing education during each 24-month renewal period, including at least 8 hours of hands-on massage therapy continuing education and 3 hours relating to massage therapy ethics.
Nebraska does not pre-approve individual massage therapy continuing education programs. Each licensee is responsible for determining whether a course meets the acceptable topic areas and other continuing education requirements established by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services under 172 NAC 81.
AFCB provides course documentation and certificates of completion for successfully completed course hours. Each practitioner remains responsible for maintaining appropriate documentation and determining how course hours apply to their individual licensing requirements.
Licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors, and other qualified healthcare or bodywork professionals are welcome to attend AFCB courses when the course content is appropriate to their professional practice.
AFCB education does not expand or modify a participant's professional scope of practice. Each participant is solely responsible for reviewing the laws, regulations, professional standards, and continuing education requirements governing their individual license and jurisdiction before incorporating AFCB concepts or techniques into practice.
AFCB does not guarantee that course hours will be accepted for continuing education credit by another profession's licensing board or regulatory authority. Participants seeking CE credit outside of massage therapy should verify eligibility with their applicable licensing authority before registering.
Students should bring:
Students who are driving or attending locally are strongly encouraged to bring their own portable massage table. Students traveling by air may contact AFCB in advance regarding table availability to avoid additional oversized-baggage expenses.
Instruction includes an in-class PowerPoint presentation, and students are encouraged to take notes throughout the course.
An optional AFCB Course Workbook, featuring anatomical and visual references, clinical indicators, and dedicated note-taking space to support material taught in the applicable module, will be available for purchase during the course.
The workbook is intended as a supplemental companion to hands-on instruction and is not a substitute for course participation.
AFCB™ course materials, including presentations, manuals, workbooks, illustrations, anatomical concepts and diagrams, written instructional materials, course sequencing, terminology, and other original educational content, are provided for the student's personal education and professional reference.
Students may take personal written notes during class.
Audio recording, video recording, photography of instructional materials or demonstrations, or recording of fellow participants is not permitted without prior permission from the instructor and, when applicable, the consent of everyone being recorded or photographed.
AFCB course materials may not be copied, reproduced, distributed, uploaded, published, sold, shared electronically, or used to create or teach a course, workshop, training program, or derivative educational product without written permission from AFCB.
Completion of an AFCB course authorizes the practitioner to incorporate AFCB techniques and concepts into their professional practice within their individual legal scope of practice. It does not authorize the participant to teach, certify others in, reproduce, or represent themselves as an instructor of the AFCB method.
Any authorized use of AFCB names, logos, practitioner designations, or other branded materials remains subject to AFCB's current branding and practitioner-use requirements.
Students must attend and participate in the required instructional and hands-on portions of the course to receive a certificate reflecting completion of the full course hours.
Full attendance and participation are required to receive CEs and a Certificate of Completion. AFCB does not issue partial CE credit. Students who miss more than the attendance allowance will not receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.
Completion of an AFCB™ course does not automatically confer AFCB certification or Registered AFCB Practitioner status.
Students who successfully complete the required course hours will receive documentation of course completion and applicable continuing education hours.
AFCB certification and inclusion in the AFCB Practitioner Registry require completion of the separate post-course certification requirements established by AFCB. These requirements are provided to students as part of the certification process.
Participants may not represent themselves as an AFCB Certified Practitioner, Registered AFCB Practitioner, AFCB Instructor, or other AFCB credentialed professional unless they have successfully completed the applicable AFCB requirements and have been granted that designation by AFCB.
AFCB certification is a private professional designation and does not replace, expand, or modify any state license, professional credential, or legal scope of practice.
